At the risk of sounding redundant, I am going to repeat what I wrote on my home page.
These words are basically the CliffsNotes of the dissertation I wrote down below about myself: I am a self-employed Certified Public Accountant and CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional with a colorful background. I have worked in every level of the corporate chain, whether it has been a global, national, regional, local or mom and pop business. The two things I learned about myself through all that exposure are that I excel when I am engaged and I do not do well in the traditional workplace. I am ambitious but I get bored very easily. I enjoy the peace and autonomy of a virtual workplace.
As a professional, I find that I shine in a role where I am not pigeon-holed into a department involving redundancy and monotony. I like getting my hands dirty in every aspect of a business. This is how I taught myself website development, graphic design, branding and other professional skill-sets not common to an everyday bean counter. Here is some boring and long-winded information about me, my background and why I ended up creating this fancy little website to showcase my skills as a whip-smart, hyper-detailed, super-organized life hero. I was born and raised in Miami, Florida, of Cuban immigrant parents. My extended heritage is German and Spanish on my Dad’s side and French and Irish on my Mom’s side. I am fluent in Spanish and although I used to be fluent in French, I still can speak enough of it to be dangerous. I now live in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and work from home.
I attended Epiphany School for grade school and went right next door to Our Lady of Lourdes Academy for high school. After high school, I stayed in Miami for college and graduate school. I attended the University of Miami, where I earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting, a Master of Science in Taxation and a Master of Business Administration with a Specialization in Personal Financial Planning, all in five years. I also graduated with a Minor in Marketing for Business Students. After all that studying, I studied some more and passed both the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and Certified Financial Planner (CFP) exams. I started my career in accounting, particularly tax compliance and consulting, at KPMG LLP, a global and prestigious professional services firm. I spent four years there and made a move to a regional firm called Kaufman Rossin & Co., where I spent three years working in the Estate, Trust and Exempt Organizations Practice. I loved how challenging the work was, I had a great boss who taught me tons and my clients were awesome, but the hours were killing me! I found that the more I became engrossed in my career and its progression, the less I took care of myself. My constant focus on my career had allowed me to neglect everyone around me and most importantly, I was neglecting myself. With a heavy heart, I left KRCo. and went to work for a small private bank in the hopes of finding better quality of life – that gig didn’t last too long, so don’t even look for it on my résumé. I spent some time working as a consultant and then eventually went into business for myself.
I suppose if I had to pick a few words to describe myself, I would use relentless, passionate and determined. I am obsessively organized and find myself always on a mission. I am driven by to-do lists and have a big mouth that sometimes gets me in trouble. I make my way through life looking for new projects to keep myself busy and engaged. I thrive on healthy competition; I love a good challenge and suffer from being a perfectionist. I have a strong character and occasionally a temper to go with it. At the end of the day, I have a heart of gold and it doesn’t take much to see it.
